Senior Robotics Software Engineer, Perception

Develop and deploy real-time perception and sensor-fusion software for autonomous battery-electric rail vehicles. The role requires strong robotics, geometry-based computer vision, C/C++ and Rust experience, plus hands-on work with multimodal sensors and production systems.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain real-time robotics software that ingests and fuses high-throughput, multimodal data from lidar, cameras, IMUs, GPS, and other sensors.
  • Implement, validate, and test real-time sensor-fusion code in simulation and real-world deployments.
  • Perform intrinsic, extrinsic, and temporal sensor calibration; apply linear algebra, 3D geometry, and optimization to state-estimation problems.
  • Design and implement geometry-based computer-vision and robotics algorithms for real-time perception, including multiview geometry, filtering, and tracking.
  • Evaluate sensor selection and system-level tradeoffs; define test and validation plans for reliable 24/7 production operation.
  • Contribute to sensor-system hardware design, including IP-rated ruggedized enclosures and mounts.
  • Build and maintain real-time sensor and video streaming and processing pipelines.
  • Collaborate with ML, firmware, embedded-platform, and systems-engineering teams to integrate perception algorithms into the autonomy stack.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience developing and deploying robotics or perception software in real-world systems.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing geometry-based computer-vision and robotics algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Rust and C/C++.
  • Experience with real-time systems handling high-throughput, multimodal sensor data and fusion across lidar, cameras, IMUs, and GPS.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Real-time sensor-fusion implementation, testing, and validation experience.
  • Sensor calibration and optimization experience, including Kalman or particle filters, nonlinear optimization, and 3D geometry.
  • Sensor selection, system-level tradeoff analysis, and production validation planning.
  • Sensor fusion, localization, SLAM, or online calibration experience.
  • GStreamer experience for real-time pipeline development.
  • Publications in robotics conferences or journals, such as ICRA, IROS, RSS, or CoRL.
  • Experience building IP-rated, ruggedized robotic systems and real-world robotic platforms.
  • ROS2 or similar robotics middleware experience.
  • Background in autonomous vehicles, field robotics, or safety-critical domains.
  • Experience with machine-learning-based perception approaches.

Compensation

  • Target salary range: $163,000-$212,000 USD.
