India Tax Lead - Tax, APAC
Leads Stripe’s end-to-end India tax agenda, including compliance, controls, controversy, planning and business advisory, while partnering with global tax teams and senior stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Own and lead Stripe’s end-to-end India tax agenda, setting priorities and providing practical advice on material India tax matters.
- Manage India tax controversy, including risk assessment, audit and litigation strategy, information requests and notices, engagement with tax authorities, external counsel and advisers, and dispute resolution.
- Identify emerging India tax risks and opportunities; communicate exposures, recommendations and decisions to senior Tax, Finance and business stakeholders.
- Build and maintain India tax controls, documentation and processes with Accounting and other teams to ensure accurate, timely and audit-ready compliance.
- Advise on India aspects of new products, commercial arrangements, entity and operating-model changes, product expansion, intercompany transactions and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor Indian legislative, regulatory and administrative developments and lead implementation of required changes.
- Develop relationships with internal stakeholders, tax authorities, industry bodies and external advisers.
- Partner with APAC and global tax teams on regional and global initiatives.
Requirements
- 12+ years of relevant India tax experience in a Big Four firm, law firm and/or multinational organization, with ownership of complex tax matters.
- Professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant, lawyer or equivalent.
- Deep technical knowledge of Indian corporate and indirect tax law.
- Hands-on experience leading India tax audits, assessments, appeals or litigation, including controversy strategy and engagement with tax authorities and advisers.
- Working knowledge of Indian direct and indirect taxes, transfer pricing and withholding tax.
- Experience owning tax compliance, controls, controversy and business advisory for a multinational group and partnering with global subject-matter-expert teams.
- Strong judgment and ability to translate complex tax issues into clear recommendations for non-tax stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and drive cross-functional matters to resolution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with credibility to represent the company externally and influence stakeholders.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in tax law, administrative practice and business conditions.
