Electrical Equipment Design, Technical Lead
Leads product architecture, certification, and multidisciplinary design for LV/MV switchgear, BBU, and busway equipment powering AI data centers. Requires 12+ years of switchgear design experience, product-line ownership, and successful NRTL listing and witness-testing leadership.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own product architecture for the LV/MV switchgear, battery backup unit (BBU), and busway lineup, including frame-size and bus-rating matrices.
- Lead NRTL certification strategy, including relationships, test sequencing, lab bookings, budgets, and witness testing.
- Lead the electrical equipment design team across electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, controls, and drafting; make team-structure and staffing decisions.
- Define short-circuit, withstand, and temperature-rise ratings and design standards.
- Make make-versus-buy recommendations for each product category based on cost, schedule, and certification risk.
- Drive redesigns following test failures through root cause analysis and retesting.
Requirements
- 12+ years of switchgear and electrical equipment design experience.
- Experience leading design teams at an electrical equipment OEM or equivalent.
- Personal experience taking equipment through UL 891, UL 1558, or IEC 61439 listing, including witness testing at qualified laboratories.
- Experience owning product architecture across an LV/MV lineup, including BBU integration and certification paths.
- Experience structuring and staffing multidisciplinary gear design teams.
- Ability to defend ratings philosophies against test-lab requirements and cost targets.
Nice-to-haves
- BBU or energy storage integration into electrical equipment.
- Busway product experience.
- Arc-resistant design experience.
- Deep NRTL relationships.
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $208,000–$263,000.
