MV DC Systems, Technical Lead
Leads architecture, modeling, protection, and safety-case development for MVDC distribution systems powering gigawatt-scale AI campuses. Requires 12+ years in power systems or power electronics, direct MVDC/HVDC design experience, EMT simulation expertise, and technical team leadership.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Architect medium-voltage DC (MVDC) distribution systems for gigawatt-scale AI campuses, including voltage level, topology, and grounding scheme.
- Own the system electromagnetic transient (EMT) model and lead fault and stability analysis for fully converter-interfaced networks.
- Define the DC protection philosophy and own a rigorous safety case for systems operating ahead of established standards.
- Lead the DC Systems team, establish initial deliverables, and manage technical interfaces with solid-state transformer (SST) and facility electrical teams.
- Drive vendor strategy for solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs), converters, and DC-rated components.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in power systems or power electronics.
- Direct end-to-end MVDC or HVDC system design experience, such as shipboard MVDC, HVDC converter stations, or grid-scale converter-dominated networks.
- System-level expertise in architecture, grounding, fault behavior, and stability of converter-dominated networks.
- Ability to analyze DC fault sequences from initiation through clearing.
- Fluency with EMT simulation, particularly PSCAD/EMTDC, and experience using it to prove designs.
- Experience developing defensible safety cases ahead of immature standards, including work relevant to IEEE 1709 and emerging MVDC provisions in NEC 2026.
- Experience leading small technical teams.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of SSCB and DC breaker ecosystems.
- Expertise in DC grounding and insulation coordination.
- Islanded or behind-the-meter system experience.
- Standards committee participation.
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $208,000–$263,000.
