SST Systems Architect, Technical Lead

Leads end-to-end architecture and hardware development for medium-voltage solid-state transformers supporting gigawatt-scale AI data centers. Requires 15+ years in power conversion, megawatt-scale converter experience, semiconductor strategy expertise, and leadership from architecture through working prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the solid-state transformer (SST) end to end, including topology selection (ISOP DAB stacks, MMC-based, or alternatives) and semiconductor strategy.
  • Defend architecture decisions based on efficiency, redundancy, manufacturability, and device availability.
  • Lead power electronics, magnetics, and controls engineers from architecture through working hardware.
  • Own system trade-offs and define the interface between the SST and the MVDC systems team, including protection, control boundaries, and fault behavior.
  • Build the program plan and prototype roadmap, including build-versus-partner recommendations.
  • Develop vendor and research partnerships with device makers, laboratories, and universities.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in power conversion.
  • Experience leading an SST or medium-voltage converter program at major industrial, research, or university-lab scale.
  • Experience owning converter topology selection, semiconductor strategy, and system trade-offs at megawatt scale.
  • Experience leading converter development from architecture through working hardware, not solely papers or simulations.
  • Deep knowledge of the silicon-carbide ecosystem and ability to develop a multi-year semiconductor strategy.
  • Ability to create and defend a 12-month program plan for an eight-engineer team.
  • Experience with program setbacks and the ability to identify root causes and corrective actions.

  • Established vendor and university research relationships.
  • Certification experience for medium-voltage power conversion.
