Manager, Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing team of ~10 engineers building and modernizing cloud-native SaaS applications for marinas, boatyards, and waterfront businesses.
• Define and execute a product-aligned engineering strategy supporting the Marine platform and business roadmap.
• Stay hands-on: pair with engineers, review designs and PRs, weigh in on architecture.
• Translate business priorities into engineering roadmaps with KPIs, milestones, and metrics.
• Oversee design, development, and scaling of mission-critical applications for stability, performance, security, and compliance.
• Drive modernization of legacy systems to distributed, service-oriented architectures using AI-assisted tooling.
• Champion best practices: automated testing, code quality, observability, CI/CD, and AI-assisted workflows.
• Recruit, manage, coach, and grow a diverse engineering team; foster collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and responsible AI use.
• Lead incident response in partnership with DevOps; improve reliability, uptime, and cost-efficiency.
• Partner with Product, Operations, Client Success, and stakeholders across the US and global hubs to align technology with user and business needs.

How You'll Lead with AI

• Set standards and guardrails for AI-assisted development, including review of AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability.
• Coach engineers on effective use of tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT.
• Identify and sponsor internal AI-enabled tools, automations, and workflows to reduce repetitive work and improve developer experience.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated designs, code, and documentation.
• Measure and communicate AI impact on speed, quality, and delivery; refine workflows with data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years progressive software engineering experience, including direct experience managing and growing engineering teams.
• Proven track record delivering cloud-based SaaS products at scale in fast-paced environments.
• Deep hands-on experience building and shipping production web applications with Node.js and React (TypeScript/JavaScript).
• Technical depth to review designs/code, mentor senior engineers, and guide legacy-to-cloud-native transitions.
• Day-to-day fluency with AI-assisted tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT or similar) and AI-forward mindset.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; experience explaining technical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Working understanding of AWS, scalable infrastructure, application security, and Agile/Lean practices.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases while maintaining production reliability.
• Experience with SaaS products powering industry-specific workflows (POS, reservations, payments, customer management, service/work-order management, channel management, marketplace systems).
• Experience in marine/marina/waterfront hospitality software or adjacent field-service and asset-management domains.
• Experience building internal AI-enabled tools/automations for engineering teams and mentoring on prompting, AI-assisted review, and AI-driven practices.
• Experience defining and tracking engineering KPIs (velocity, uptime, release quality, cost efficiency) to improve outcomes.
