Senior Product Manager, Secret Detection and Vulnerability Research

Own the strategy, quality, adoption, and commercial outcomes for GitLab’s Secret Detection and Vulnerability Research products. The role requires application-security expertise, technical fluency in detection systems and pipelines, strong commercial judgment, and effective asynchronous communication.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Own business outcomes for Secret Detection and Vulnerability Research, including adoption, expansion, competitive win rate, and revenue contribution.
  • Define packaging and pricing strategy alongside product strategy.
  • Set the strategy for the full secret lifecycle: prevention, detection, validation, revocation, and reporting across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed.
  • Treat detection content as a product by defining how rules, advisories, and intelligence feeds are sourced, validated, versioned, and measured.
  • Own detection-quality metrics, including precision and false-positive rates.
  • Understand detection logic, rule syntax, entropy heuristics, scanner behavior, data pipelines, and CI integration.
  • Use AI for research, analysis, data pulls, prototyping, drafting, triage, rule generation, remediation guidance, and reducing human review burden.
  • Partner with engineering, security research, threat intelligence, Field, and GitLab’s Security team.
  • Communicate clearly and asynchronously with distributed teams.

Requirements

  • Domain depth in application security, vulnerability management, or security research.
  • Experience with scanners, detection content, threat intelligence, or SDLC security tooling.
  • Technical credibility with security engineering teams and the ability to reason about detection logic, data pipelines, CI integration, and coverage-versus-noise tradeoffs.
  • Commercial reasoning grounded in revenue mechanics, buyer motion, and competitive displacement.
  • Evidence of using AI as a force multiplier for research, analysis, data gathering, prototyping, or drafting.
  • Strong judgment under ambiguity and the ability to provide structured options and recommendations.
  • Ability to turn complex technical problems into clear written decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on background as a developer, security engineer, red teamer, or researcher.
  • Experience with credential and token ecosystems.
  • Experience commercializing a data or intelligence asset.

Benefits

  • Flexible paid time off
  • Team member resource groups
  • Equity compensation and employee stock purchase plan
  • Growth and development fund
  • Parental leave
