Engineering Manager
Engineering Manager to lead product engineering teams at Flux, an AI hardware platform. Set technical direction and architecture across full-stack, AI-integrated systems; drive execution, hiring, and cross-functional alignment in a fast-paced early-stage environment. Requires 8+ years hands-on software engineering and 4+ years engineering management.
About the job
What You'll Do
- Own engineering execution: Drive delivery across the product engineering team, set technical direction, unblock teams, and maintain high standards for quality, reliability, and velocity. Partner with product leadership to scope, sequence, and ship impactful work.
- Be the technical standard-bearer: Define engineering excellence, establish architectural principles, review critical designs, ensure intentional codebase evolution, and balance speed with long-term risk.
- Build and scale the engineering function: Start hands-on with existing reports; hire, develop, and retain exceptional engineers; implement processes, culture, and tooling for scalable execution.
- Drive cross-functional alignment: Act as engineering voice in product, design, and go-to-market discussions; translate business needs into technical direction and constraints into product strategy.
- Develop AI-native engineering practices: Integrate AI-assisted development into workflows (coding, testing, observability); set standards for building AI-integrated products responsibly and at speed.
- Amplify team signal: Build feedback loops for quality, reliability, and team health; champion engineering visibility organization-wide.
What You'll Bring
- Engineering Leadership: 4+ years managing engineering teams, including hiring, mentorship, performance management, retaining talent, and building high-performing cultures.
- Technical Depth: 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience (prior to management), able to review PRs, architect solutions, and engage in technical debates.
- Execution & Delivery: Experience shipping and iterating on complex, customer-facing web applications at scale under deadlines and constraints.
- Product & Stakeholder Influence: Proven collaboration with product and design to scope/ship features; experience influencing VP/C-suite on contested decisions.
- AI & Full-Stack Proficiency: Building AI-integrated or agentic software products in production, with comfort across frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
- Adaptive Mindset: Thrives in chaos and ambiguity; experience building from zero to one in early-stage environments.
Nice to Have
- AI/ML experience building or managing LLM-integrated or agentic products in production, with shipped examples.
- Full-stack fluency: React, TypeScript (frontend); Node.js, Python (backend); GCP or AWS (cloud infrastructure).
- Early-stage experience: Joined at Series A or earlier and scaled engineering or product through growth.
- Hiring: Sourced, interviewed, and closed 5+ senior engineering hires with strong retention.
- Tooling instinct: Built internal tools, frameworks, or systems to boost team productivity.
