Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of operators during assigned shifts, ensuring clear responsibilities and adherence to safety protocols.
- Oversee maintenance, inspections, and general fleet health to maximize vehicle uptime for testing.
- Manage logistics including route planning, long-distance testing, and equipment transport.
- Develop daily run plans aligned with data-collection quotas; track disengagement rates and report root causes to engineering.
- Manage shift-level personnel responsibilities, including attendance tracking, policy adherence, and performance or conduct coaching.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for vehicle faults, on-road incidents, and workflow blockers; ensure rapid triage and reporting.
- Monitor vehicle deployment and shift progress against testing metrics; summarize outcomes for handoff and reporting.
- Ensure operations comply with Japanese road laws and internal safety standards as a certified Operation Manager (運行管理者).
- Contribute to continuous improvement through post-shift reviews and root-cause assessments.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in operations, field team leadership, or vehicle/fleet coordination.
- Experience managing vehicle maintenance, driver shifts, or complex logistical scheduling.
- Experience guiding frontline teams in a dynamic, technology-driven environment.
- Proactive, hands-on problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team-support skills.
- Safety-first mindset with experience working in high-pressure environments.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with autonomous vehicles, automotive testing, or robotics systems.
- Familiarity with fleet management systems such as Fleetio, Jira, Slack, Confluence, and Google Workspace.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-management skills.
- Knowledge of basic telemetry systems, software deployment processes, or AV health tools.
- Experience supporting multi-program vehicle operations in a cross-functional setting.
- Familiarity with vehicle-testing workflows, shift scheduling, and operations documentation.
- Certified Operation Manager (運行管理者) qualification in Japan, freight or passenger.
