Staff Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision and strategy for a rapidly evolving product area, making high-judgment decisions on architecture and technology direction.
• Drive adoption of AI and machine learning solutions to optimize customer support workflows and improve operational efficiency across the platform.
• Lead a team of engineers shipping code and solving complex engineering problems while maintaining a high bar for technical excellence.
• Translate business goals into actionable engineering projects.
• Own the technical roadmap from conception through delivery, managing cross-team dependencies and mitigating risks.
• Drive responsible adoption of AI development tools across engineering teams by modeling effective use, establishing best practices, and mentoring engineers to improve productivity without compromising code quality or security.
• Champion improvements in system observability, performance, and technical debt reduction.
• Establish best practices for deployment, alerting, and on-call health.
• Own platform stability, investigate root causes, and build preventive safeguards.
• Drive alignment across product, design, and operations; resolve bottlenecks and make decisive architectural trade-offs.
• Mentor and develop engineers, delegate stretch opportunities, lead cross-team reviews, and foster technical excellence.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering industry experience, with a track record of architecting and delivering large-scale backend systems in production.
• Experience setting technical direction for a product or platform area, authoring architecture documentation, and driving alignment across senior stakeholders.
• Deep expertise designing and operating distributed systems, including microservices, event-driven architectures, and high-throughput APIs at scale.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Java, or C#.
• Understanding of performance, concurrency, and reliability trade-offs.
• Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with modern container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, or cri-o.
• Ability to lead and influence engineering teams, set technical standards, run design reviews, and unblock execution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent technical strategy to leadership and align cross-functional partners.
