Forward Deployed Product Designer
Design and ship complex, practice-group-specific B2B software for legal clients and attorneys in close partnership with clients, partners, and engineers. The role requires 6+ years of product design experience, strong workflow and systems design skills, and fluency with AI-assisted tools.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Lead product design for practice-group-specific software delivered by the Deployment Team.
- Join client and partner scoping conversations from day one alongside the internal team.
- Turn ambiguous needs into clear workflows, prototypes, and product decisions.
- Design workflows that help clients and legal teams understand progress, make decisions, and move matters forward.
- Prototype in code or with AI-assisted tools when that helps the team learn faster.
- Work alongside Forward Deployed Engineers through implementation and QA, providing hands-on product and design feedback.
- Help the team make high-quality product decisions under real client, technical, and time constraints.
- Partner with Forward Deployed Engineers on the technical approach to realizing the target experience.
- Identify when client- or practice-specific solutions should become reusable products, components, or design-system patterns.
- Bring learnings from client delivery back to product, engineering, and design teams.
Requirements
- 6+ years of product design experience, including ownership of complex B2B or enterprise product experiences.
- Strong interaction, visual, and systems design craft.
- Experience designing complex workflow, data-dense, or client-facing software.
- Comfort working through ambiguity without waiting for a perfect brief.
- Strong client-facing presence and ability to explain design decisions to senior stakeholders.
- Experience partnering directly with engineers from early scoping through implementation.
- Ability to move quickly without losing clarity, judgment, or product quality.
- Good product taste, strong product judgment, and a bias toward making ideas concrete.
- Fluency with AI-assisted design, prototyping, and development tools.
- Portfolio demonstrating shipped product work, not only concepts or final mockups.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a forward-deployed, solutions, consulting, agency, or other client-embedded environment.
- Experience designing legal, financial, healthcare, or other expert professional workflows.
- Experience designing collaboration tools or software connecting external users to complex internal workflows.
- Comfort with Git, React, and version-controlled prototyping workflows.
- Experience turning fast-moving product work into reusable components, interaction patterns, or design-system contributions.
- Experience working at an early-stage or fast-growing company.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $215,000–$265,000 per year, plus equity.
- 401(k) with employer match.
- Comprehensive health, dental, hospital, accident, and vision insurance.
- Relocation reimbursement for candidates moving to NYC.
