Staff Quality Assurance Engineer
Staff Quality Assurance Engineer who will build and own organization-wide automated testing strategy, frameworks, observability, and AI-assisted workflows. The role requires deep quality engineering experience across testing layers, strong AWS and Node.js/TypeScript skills, and the ability to coach teams toward measurable quality ownership.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own automated-testing strategy and frameworks across the UI product, beginning with Resident Onboarding and expanding to Command Center.
- Drive critical-user-flow coverage into the delivery pipeline so engineering owns automated tests.
- Build and maintain a risk-weighted registry of critical flows and live dashboards measuring tested flows, exercised screens, and tested production traffic.
- Develop AI-first testing workflows, skills, and MCP-based tooling using Claude, JIRA, APIs, CLIs, and direct database inspection.
- Modernize partner integration testing by replacing manual web verification with API-based automation.
- Identify and close environment and testability gaps.
- Coach engineers, embed quality into design and pull-request review, and improve automated-test ownership across teams.
- Lead the Quality Enablement practice with engineering, platform, and product stakeholders.
- Establish CI coverage ratchets, deployment-gate health monitoring, flake reduction, and escaped-defect tracking.
Requirements
- Staff-level engineering experience designing, coding, and owning test automation and frameworks across unit, integration, contract, and browser/end-to-end layers.
- Quality engineering is your primary craft, with a strong track record of building automated testing systems.
- Experience using AI to accelerate and improve testing, including agent workflows, skills, or MCP tooling; experience with Claude is relevant.
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- High autonomy and demonstrated ownership of ambiguous quality problems through measurable results.
- Strong experience with AWS and Node.js/TypeScript.
- Comfort working across distributed, service-oriented systems and testing across service boundaries.
- Ability to work an 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. EST schedule.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience establishing or scaling a quality engineering practice.
- Performance or load testing experience.
- Relational database data-integrity testing, especially PostgreSQL.
