Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and develop a team of 4–6 senior backend and platform engineers, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
• Own the architecture and technical direction of core services, including service boundaries, data modeling, build-versus-buy decisions, scalability, and technical debt.
• Remain hands-on in code approximately 30% of the time through pull request reviews, prototyping, debugging, and scoped implementation work.
• Raise engineering standards for testing, code quality, observability, incident response, on-call practices, and operational excellence.
• Own reliability, correctness, and auditability for global money movement systems, including SLOs, error budgets, resilience, and platform maturity.
• Translate business and product goals into sequenced technical plans and communicate scope, tradeoffs, dependencies, and risks across Product, Compliance, Finance, and leadership.
• Partner on organizational design, headcount planning, technical strategy, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years building production software, including 3+ years managing and developing engineers.
• Current, demonstrable hands-on production coding or code review experience.
• Deep experience with distributed backend systems at scale, including data modeling, consistency, idempotency, queues, and event-driven design.
• Track record of improving engineering quality, velocity, or reliability through concrete practices.
• Experience with on-call ownership, incident command, and post-incident follow-through.
• Experience in payments, fintech, banking infrastructure, or another high-stakes domain involving money, ledgers, or regulatory obligations.
• Strong hiring, coaching, and written communication skills.
• Comfort working with ambiguity and at high speed.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with card issuing, payment processing, or Visa and Mastercard network infrastructure.
• Knowledge of stablecoins, on-chain settlement, custody, key management, EVM, or Solana infrastructure.
• Experience operating under SOC 2, PCI DSS, or bank and program-manager oversight.
• Experience leading distributed or multi-region teams.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary of $300,000–$400,000.
