Responsibilities
Own end-to-end revenue recognition for the Gusto Retirement segment (401K SaaS, IRA, AUM fees, plan administration)
Prepare monthly journal entries, subledger reconciliations, and supporting schedules for retirement revenue streams
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close within established timelines
Apply ASC 606 guidance to complex arrangements including variable consideration, contract modifications, and principal vs. agent assessments
Build and maintain automated solutions using AI tools, Python/SQL, or Excel scripting to eliminate manual work
Identify and implement process improvements across the revenue close, reducing cycle time and increasing accuracy
Partner with auditors during annual audits — lead walkthroughs, provide documentation, respond to inquiries
Collaborate cross-functionally with Retirement Operations, FP&A, Engineering, and Data teams on revenue data integrity and new product launches
Requirements
Bachelor's in Accounting; CPA preferred (active or in progress)
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years focused on revenue accounting
Strong ASC 606 knowledge applied to SaaS, subscription, or fee-based models
Proven track record building automation — scripts, tools, or workflows that reduced manual effort
Advanced Excel; Python or SQL a strong plus
NetSuite or revenue subledger experience a plus
Big 4 or public accounting background preferred; fintech or financial services a bonus
Comfortable with ambiguity, curious about AI, and excited to build processes from scratch
