Leads Freshpaint’s legal function as its first in-house counsel, advising executives and cross-functional teams on commercial transactions, privacy, compliance, risk, and corporate matters. Requires a Juris Doctor, U.S. bar membership, and substantial in-house technology or SaaS experience.

Responsibilities
Commercial Contracting
- Own commercial contracting end to end across new business, renewals, expansions, and partner or agency agreements, including technology and data partners.
- Build scalable contract templates, playbooks, and workflows that enable the business to move quickly.
- Manage outside counsel and legal spend strategically.
Privacy and Compliance
- Advise on data privacy strategy and embed with Product and Engineering so privacy review occurs during design.
- Advise on privacy, data protection, security, and compliance matters relevant to products and operations.
Liability, Risk, and Corporate Legal
- Advise the CEO and cross-functional leaders on legal risk and practical paths forward.
- Support corporate governance, financing, equity, employment, intellectual property, and other corporate legal matters.
- Develop a proactive, business-first approach to risk management as the company scales.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
- In-house legal experience at a technology or SaaS company, ideally in an earlier-stage startup.
- Strong experience negotiating and managing commercial agreements across the customer and vendor lifecycle.
- Deep familiarity with privacy, data protection, and technology-related legal issues.
- Practical, business-oriented judgment balancing risk management, speed, customer needs, and company goals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across functions.
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize competing demands, and make progress in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $260,000–$300,000 annually.
- Generous equity with a 10-year exercise window.
