Senior Accountant

Owns accounting for payroll, compensation, benefits, commissions, and severance while supporting close, reconciliations, audits, and process improvements. The role requires at least five years of accounting experience, strong US GAAP knowledge, and hands-on experience across payroll and HRIS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own payroll accounting, including payroll-cycle journal entries, payroll tax accruals, liability reconciliations, and multi-state filing variance coordination.
  • Prepare accruals and true-ups for bonuses, PTO, commissions, severance, and termination benefits.
  • Manage commission accounting, including capitalization and amortization under ASC 340-40, clawbacks, reversals, and reconciliation to commission plans.
  • Own benefits and insurance accounting, including self-insured medical claims, IBNR, stop-loss premiums and recoveries, 401(k) matching, HSA/FSA, COBRA, and workers’ compensation.
  • Reconcile headcount and compensation data across HRIS, payroll, and the general ledger.
  • Partner with HR/People and FP&A on labor-cost, headcount, allocation, and internal-use software capitalization analysis.
  • Review accounts payable, T&E, corporate card activity, vendor onboarding, and bank reconciliations as needed.
  • Support month-end close, journal entries, accruals, variance analysis, audits, payroll/HRIS implementations, integrations, process documentation, and SOX-ready controls.
  • Use AI and automation to improve recurring people-cost workflows.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience; public accounting experience preferred.
  • Hands-on payroll and compensation accounting experience, including journal entries, tax reconciliations, bonus/PTO accruals, and benefits accounting.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP for employee costs, including ASC 710, ASC 420/712, and ASC 340-40.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll and payroll/tax service providers.
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms such as ADP, UKG, or Workday, integrated with an ERP.
  • ERP experience; NetSuite preferred.
  • Strong analytical, Excel/Google Sheets, process-improvement, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive compensation and employee data confidentially.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with self-insured benefit plans, IBNR claim accruals, and stop-loss arrangements.
  • Experience in high-volume SaaS or technology environments.
  • Interest in AI and automation for accounting workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual base salary range: $90,000–$115,583 USD.
