Senior Software Engineer
Build end-to-end developer experiences across dbt Studio, the VS Code extension, and the CLI workspace runtime. The role requires senior production software ownership, strong Python with TypeScript and React, operational expertise, and experience building tools used by other developers.

Responsibilities
- Own parts of the CLI workspace runtime, including migrating users from the legacy IDE and enabling asynchronous background agent runs.
- Design and build agent-facing experiences such as streaming responses, transparent tool calls, diff review, charting, and rich outputs for conversational analytics.
- Extend dbt through MCP integrations for AI clients such as Claude and Codex.
- Lead scoped projects end to end: write plans, partner with design and product, ship in two-week increments, and measure outcomes.
- Participate in on-call and customer support for owned surfaces.
- Mentor engineers earlier in their careers.
Requirements
- 5+ years building production software, including senior-level ownership of multi-month projects involving several people.
- Deep Python experience, with TypeScript and React experience.
- Experience building and maintaining developer-facing tools such as an IDE, editor extension, CLI, SDK, LSP server, or data tool.
- Comfort with APIs, Kubernetes, Postgres, observability, and operational ownership.
- Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
- Experience working asynchronously on a fully remote, distributed team.
Nice-to-haves
- Production experience shipping LLM- or agent-powered features, including evaluation, latency, cost, and model limitations.
- Experience with Language Server Protocol, Monaco, CodeMirror, or other code-editor internals.
- Hands-on dbt, SQL, or data warehouse experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Experience migrating users from and decommissioning legacy product surfaces.
- Go, Rust, or systems-level performance experience.
