Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, coach, and mentor Okta’s global commercial attorneys and legal professionals.
- Provide executive-level negotiating expertise and guidance on SaaS master subscription agreements, AI commercial matters, professional services agreements, reseller and distributor agreements, managed service provider agreements, vendor agreements, and other enterprise commercial agreements.
- Ensure legal services appropriately balance risks and opportunities, comply with applicable law, and remain customer-oriented.
- Scale and improve commercial legal support for the go-to-market organization through data-driven, efficient, and calibrated advice.
- Establish leadership in AI agentic commercial legal terms and approaches.
- Build a world-class public sector commercial legal program and team.
- Advise on customer commercial relationships, including security, privacy, data usage, and AI matters.
- Partner with Legal Operations to increase automation, use data analytics, streamline deal processes, and establish scalable global contracting standards.
- Create policies, training, guides, playbooks, and consistent commercial legal guidance aligned with risk tolerance.
- Drive organizational planning, budgeting, and performance tracking for the commercial legal team.
- Partner with go-to-market, finance, deal desk, IT, security, procurement, and other business teams.
- Support a global team through regular ongoing travel.
Requirements
- 15+ years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney negotiating and drafting enterprise-level SaaS agreements.
- 7+ years of in-house legal experience.
- Proven record of building and managing legal teams, including at a publicly traded company.
- Experience leading, developing, and scaling teams and practical, business-oriented processes.
- Familiarity with deal structures for regulated entities and foreign jurisdictions.
- Strong collaboration, communication, executive presence, and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex global legal issues and ambiguity into clear guidance for non-legal colleagues.
- Ability to work with urgency while prioritizing competing interests in a quarterly business environment.
- Highly responsive, service-oriented, team-oriented, and committed to integrity.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing of at least one state bar, preferably California.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary: $322,000–$443,000 USD for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
