Director, Privacy Legal

Responsibilities

  • Manage legal support for Reddit’s global privacy compliance program and advise on obligations under US, EU, and other applicable privacy frameworks.
  • Implement and maintain privacy and legal policies and processes aligned with industry-standard frameworks.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to design and implement privacy controls.
  • Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, disclosures, and privacy compliance readiness efforts.
  • Serve as the lead legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection across the legal team.
  • Advise technical teams on potential privacy and security issues and applicable legal requirements.
  • Build regulatory and industry-body relationships and advocate for Reddit’s privacy-focused approach.
  • Manage high-impact legal team members and collaborate across time zones with engineering, product, legal, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent law degree.
  • Active local license in the applicable jurisdiction; multi-jurisdictional legal experience is preferred.
  • 12+ years of legal experience in a top law firm or in-house environment.
  • 5+ years of in-house privacy and/or product counseling experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing a privacy compliance program in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of global privacy laws and industry guidelines relevant to technology platforms.
  • Experience responding to and partnering with regulators, particularly in Europe.
  • Strong legal drafting, writing, communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing high-performing legal team members.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $299,200–$418,800 USD.
