Payroll Manager
Owns end-to-end, multi-state payroll and tax compliance while building scalable systems and controls for a rapidly growing technology company. Requires 4+ years of payroll or accounting experience, strong payroll systems expertise, and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities
- Run end-to-end payroll each cycle, including wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefits across multiple states.
- Reconcile timekeeping data, garnishments, and benefits deductions before each close; identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Own federal, state, and local tax withholding, remittance, and filing obligations.
- Maintain and improve Rippling or Deel configuration as headcount, roles, and compensation structures evolve.
- Partner with HR on hires, terminations, and compensation changes to maintain accurate payroll records.
- Prepare payroll reports for Finance, HR, and external audits.
- Manage year-end filings, including W-2s and 1099s.
- Identify manual processes and build or configure scalable systems and controls.
Requirements
- 4+ years of progressive payroll or accounting experience, including direct ownership of multi-state payroll and tax compliance.
- Experience at a high-growth technology startup or private company where processes were still being built.
- Hands-on experience with modern payroll systems; Rippling or Deel strongly preferred.
- Ability to process complex compensation structures, including bonuses, commissions, and equity, with zero material errors.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements, including withholding, remittance, and filing obligations.
- Experience collaborating with HR, Legal, and Finance on headcount events and compensation changes.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Prior public company payroll experience.
- Experience handling non-standard compensation involving crypto, tokens, or equity with tax implications.
