Responsibilities
- Design and scale backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
- Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing.
- Own pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the data warehouse.
- Collaborate with platform, application, product, scientific, clinical, development, and support teams to translate requirements into integrations, services, and scalable data-platform solutions.
- Implement maintainable features with strong data integrity, sound design, and attention to product context.
- Draft RFCs and lead complex feature discovery and technical design, incorporating stakeholder input.
- Ensure correctness when data moves between systems, including completeness, idempotency, and predictable behavior during partial failures.
- Improve operational robustness and usability through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
- Strong SQL proficiency and production experience with PostgreSQL, including query tuning, schema design, indexes, and query plans.
- Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent platform such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
- Proficiency in Julia or Python.
- Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Helm.
- Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript, including Node.js.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in remote or hybrid teams.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Julia.
- Experience working with data infrastructure for clinical, scientific, healthcare, or digital health applications.
Compensation
- Base salary range: $150,000–$170,000 USD.
- Additional compensation includes equity, paid time off, and other benefits.
