Build scalable backend systems and AI interfaces that enable developers and agents to work with MongoDB. The role requires strong Node.js and TypeScript experience, product-minded judgment, autonomy, and collaboration on high-visibility platform projects.

Responsibilities
- Define the first version and future evolution of AI interfaces in collaboration with research, product management, engineering, design, and other teams.
- Design, build, and deliver well-tested platform components, including the MongoDB MCP Server, Agent Skills, Intelligent Assistant Platform, and purpose-built agents.
- Own ambiguous problems through completion and make sound decisions as requirements evolve.
- Shape architecture, code reviews, development practices, and developer experience.
- Mentor fellow engineers and own project accountability.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for business continuity and incident response.
Requirements
- Strong experience building core components for scalable, high-availability web applications and services.
- 3+ years of experience building backend systems, primarily with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience identifying problems, implementing solutions, and working on complex projects.
- Product-minded engineering judgment, pragmatic tradeoff-making, and comfort with ambiguity.
- Strong collaboration and technical communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and a strong technical background.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience building MCP servers, agent skills, or plugins for agentic applications.
- Familiarity with agentic AI tooling, including AI IDEs, CLIs, and assistants.
- Working knowledge of Java or Python.
- Experience with OAuth and authentication infrastructure for developer-facing services.
- Experience with databases and database internals.
- Experience with containerization, Kubernetes, AI frameworks, or related tools.
