Member of Technical Staff, Agentic Developer Experience
Build Vapi’s internal agentic development platform, including secure sandboxes, developer tooling, evaluation systems, and autonomous engineering workflows. The role requires strong distributed-systems and platform experience, coding-agent expertise, and fluency in TypeScript, Python, or Go.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Map and instrument the path from engineering task to production, identifying constraints on agent effectiveness.
- Improve sandbox environments, developer tooling, and validation infrastructure.
- Build production workflows for Vapi’s internal software factory.
- Equip background agents with context, tools, sandboxes, telemetry, and automated quality gates to produce review-ready pull requests backed by evidence.
- Own the platform for autonomous, background engineering.
- Build an agent harness that can place real calls, measure latency and conversation quality, inspect telemetry, and iterate toward verified results.
- Create systems that accelerate engineering teams and improve software delivery speed.
Requirements
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure that materially improved how engineers build, test, and ship software.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals across distributed systems, platform architecture, API design, CI/CD, and monorepo or large-codebase workflows.
- Practical experience building agent harnesses and using coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or comparable open-source tools.
- Experience designing secure agent interfaces, MCP integrations, and sandboxed runtimes.
- Experience building or operating online and offline LLM evaluation systems.
- Ability to reason about accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost.
- Fluency in at least one of TypeScript, Python, or Go.
- Comfort working with containers, databases, queues, orchestration systems, and modern cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with frontier models and techniques including prompt caching, context compression, retrieval, and multi-agent coordination.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and turn fragmented experiments into simple, usable systems.
Benefits and Compensation
- Competitive salary and equity ownership.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Flexible time off.
- Quarterly team off-sites.
- Catered meals, transportation, and equipment.
- $10,000 annual learning and development budget.
