Sr. Manager, Accounts Payable

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-layered team of accounts payable managers and staff across multiple locations.
  • Set performance expectations, coach and provide feedback, support career development, identify skill gaps, champion training, and create succession plans.
  • Foster an accountable, inclusive, high-trust, results-oriented culture.

Accounts Payable, T&E, and Procure-to-Pay Operations

  • Own end-to-end global accounts payable, travel and expense, and corporate card operations.
  • Oversee purchase requisitions and purchase orders, invoice processing, three-way matching, payment execution, supplier aging, reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and employee credit card programs.
  • Design and enforce AP and T&E policies, procedures, and controls compliant with GAAP, internal audit requirements, and SOX frameworks.
  • Oversee high-volume invoice and payment processing across multiple currencies and legal entities.
  • Partner with Treasury on cash-flow forecasting, payment-term optimization, and working-capital management.
  • Maintain vendor master data integrity and controls around vendor changes.

International Expansion and M&A

  • Lead AP and T&E integration workstreams for mergers, acquisitions, and new market entries, including new-entity setup and system integrations.
  • Develop scalable global AP and T&E frameworks that comply with local regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Tax, Legal, and Corporate Development on cross-border payment structures, withholding tax, and statutory compliance.
  • Manage international practices including VAT/GST recovery, multicurrency payments, and country-specific invoicing mandates.

Automation and Process Design

  • Lead adoption of AP and T&E automation, including intelligent invoice capture, OCR/AI, workflow automation, and ERP enhancements.
  • Drive process improvement using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize AP and T&E platforms and tools such as ZIP, Oracle Fusion, and SAP Concur or equivalent systems.
  • Define and monitor KPIs and SLAs, using performance data to guide decisions and communicate with senior leadership.

Supplier Relations and Business Partnership

  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Procurement, HR, and business units to position AP and T&E as a value-added function.
  • Improve supplier experience through timely payments, proactive communication, and efficient dispute resolution.
  • Establish supplier escalation protocols and manage executive-level vendor relationships.
  • Lead supplier portals, self-service tools, and communications that reduce inquiries and improve satisfaction.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Own U.S. 1099 reporting for corporate suppliers, including year-end filings, TIN matching, and IRS compliance.
  • Oversee international supplier withholding-tax reporting and documentation, including W-8 series forms, FATCA/CRS compliance, and local obligations.
  • Partner with Tax on payment classification, reportable transactions, and year-end disclosures.
  • Monitor evolving global tax-reporting requirements and update processes accordingly.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounts payable and expense reimbursement experience.
  • At least 5 years of people-management experience leading managers.
  • Experience supporting international expansion or M&A integration, including new-entity setup and system integration.
  • Deep expertise in procurement, AP, T&E, corporate card programs, and period-end close.
  • Experience managing distributed international teams across geographies and time zones.
  • Experience leading or materially contributing to a significant AP modernization initiative.
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. 1099 reporting and international supplier tax withholding and reporting obligations.
  • Understanding of internal controls, SOX compliance, and AP/T&E risk management.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, executive communication, and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience at a high-growth technology company or gig economy platform.
  • Experience with Coupa, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Tipalti, or similar enterprise AP, T&E, and ERP systems.
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification.
  • MBA or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Familiarity with shared services or global business services operating models.
  • Experience with FATCA, CRS, or other cross-border tax information reporting regimes.
