Senior Product & Regulatory Counsel - Investment Products

Provides legal and regulatory counsel for Mercury’s investment products across product development, disclosures, operations, marketing, and examination readiness. Requires 6+ years of legal experience, including 2+ years advising on non-deposit investment products, plus familiarity with major securities and FINRA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Own the legal portfolio for Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest, advising across the full product life cycle.
  • Support new feature development, draft disclosures, advise on marketing and customer communications, and address operational matters with regulatory implications.
  • Partner with product, compliance, risk, engineering, and operations teams, bringing legal perspective into discussions early.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements, pressure-test approaches, and support examination readiness with FINRA and the SEC.
  • Contribute to other Legal product areas as opportunities arise.
  • Use AI tools and workflows to improve efficiency in legal and financial-services work.
  • Translate complex regulatory concepts into clear communications for internal stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Adapt to evolving regulations, market conditions, and product changes.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of legal experience, including at least 2 years focused on non-deposit investment products.
  • Familiarity with the Investment Advisers Act, Securities Act, Investment Company Act, Regulation Best Interest, Form CRS/ADV, FINRA rules, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive ownership and sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong working knowledge of AI use cases in legal roles and/or financial services.
  • Additional experience in financial services, payments, or fintech outside the investments or brokerage space.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-house legal experience.
  • Exposure to relevant regulatory agencies as agency staff or through an industry role.

Compensation and benefits

  • Total rewards include base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits.
  • US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $219,000–$273,800 base salary.
  • US employees outside those locations: $197,100–$246,400 base salary.
  • Canadian employees: $207,000–$258,700 CAD base salary.
