Staff+ Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the team’s hardest technical problems end to end.
• Set technical direction for core systems, including architecture, data models, and engineering standards.
• Design reliable systems for money movement and storage, emphasizing idempotency, consistency, and graceful failure recovery.
• Build and maintain backend services in TypeScript and Node.js while contributing across client, API, and frontend layers as needed.
• Define handling for partial failures, retries, timeouts, reversals, and reconciliation gaps.
• Improve frontend systems and integrations where necessary.
• Raise standards for code quality, testing, monitoring, incident response, and solving ambiguous problems.
• Mentor engineers and lead technical decisions without direct people management.

Requirements

• Staff-level, hands-on experience owning production systems end to end.
• Deep expertise building backend services with TypeScript and Node.js, with full-stack capability.
• Strong understanding of reliability, correctness, state machines, data integrity, observability, and operational risk.
• Experience taking systems from zero to one and scaling them while maintaining clarity.
• Strong judgment across tradeoffs such as speed versus safety and simplicity versus flexibility.
• Clear communication, clean coding practices, high agency, and data-driven decision-making.

Nice to Have

• Fintech, banking, or crypto-native experience.
• Familiarity with stablecoins, custody, settlement, and blockchain transaction lifecycles.
• Experience as a founder or early employee at a fast-paced startup.
