Developer Advocate - Service Management
The Developer Advocate will champion service management through technical content, demos, public speaking, community engagement, and product feedback. The role requires approximately five years of production engineering experience, incident-response expertise, programming ability, and a demonstrated history of technical storytelling.

Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert for service management, including incident response, on-call, internal developer platforms (IDP), work management, workflow automation, agent building, and operational automation.
- Create content across formats such as demos, public speaking, blogs, documentation, webinars, open source, and research reports to build Datadog’s reputation in DevOps, monitoring, observability, and security.
- Partner with product engineering teams to build compelling demos and coach engineering teams on communication and presentation.
- Interface with open source communities to drive market messaging and develop integrations.
- Contribute to the product through feedback, documentation, or code.
Requirements
- Approximately 5+ years of experience as a platform engineer, site reliability engineer, DevOps engineer, or software developer, with hands-on experience responding to incidents and running production systems in complex IT environments.
- Strong understanding of service-management practices, including incident response, on-call, post-incident reviews, and service-level objectives (SLOs).
- Experience with tools such as Datadog, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, incident.io, Rootly, Jira Cloud Platform, Cortex, or similar.
- Passion for helping teams address organizational and technical challenges.
- Approximately 2+ years of experience creating compelling technical content, such as written content, conference talks, workshops, live streams, videos, open source contributions, or community events.
- Publicly available technical writing samples, blog posts, demos, or presentation recordings.
- Comfort with at least one scripting or programming language and familiarity with APIs, IaaS cloud services, and containers.
- Self-directed interest in exploring and learning new technologies and languages.
Nice-to-haves
- Hands-on ITSM platform experience with ServiceNow or Jira Service Management.
- Active participation in SRE, DevOps, or incident-response communities.
