Scientific Program Manager

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the NIH Common Fund’s Complement Animal Research in Experimentation (Complement-ARIE) program across NIH Institutes, Centers, Offices, and partner agencies.
• Prepare meeting notes, conference-call summaries, action items, workshop materials, quarterly and annual progress reports, milestone reports, presentations, briefings, correspondence, newsletters, social media, and website content.
• Coordinate and document projects from initiation through completion, tracking status, funding, results, milestones, and deliverables.
• Support planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of scientific programs and initiatives.
• Provide technical and management support to NIH program staff, including priority setting, task management, project monitoring, and work-product review.
• Organize and participate in symposia, workshops, consultations, committees, and discussions with scientific leaders and research stakeholders.
• Evaluate program activities, identify issues, develop recommendations, and assist with policies and standard operating procedures.
• Collect, manage, analyze, and summarize scientific program information and extramural research data.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative portfolio analyses, literature searches, planning reviews, and program effectiveness assessments.
• Maintain databases, data files, SharePoint and other websites, records, spreadsheets, reports, and administrative files.
• Track budgets, expenditures, forecasts, and related statistical information.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
• Four years of experience in biology or a related field.
• At least two years of related project management experience.
• Alternatively, three years of specialized experience plus a bachelor’s degree may be equivalent to a master’s degree.
• Knowledge of biomedical terminology and NIH grants and funding mechanisms.
• Experience with budget execution, administration, tracking, review, and analysis.
• Experience with databases and working knowledge of NIH IMPAC.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to develop detailed reports and analyses.
• Expertise with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $130,000–$145,000 annually.
