Responsibilities
- Define and drive technical direction for foundational web capabilities, primarily data fetching.
- Assess web client frameworks, tooling, and patterns to identify high-impact improvements.
- Lead platform investments that simplify development, reduce friction, and improve consistency.
- Partner with product, platform, design, and infrastructure teams on scalable technical patterns and long-term architecture.
- Shape data-fetching patterns across hybrid GraphQL and REST systems.
- Establish reusable abstractions, technical standards, best practices, and documentation.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical direction through architecture reviews and design discussions.
- Contribute to a high-scale web platform serving millions of users and enabling hundreds of engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of web software engineering experience building and evolving client-side data architecture in large-scale applications.
- Deep understanding of caching, consistency, latency, reliability, and developer ergonomics in modern web clients.
- Expert-level JavaScript or TypeScript coding skills; Python experience is optional.
- Knowledge of Node.js, server-side rendering, and GraphQL frameworks such as Relay.
- Strong experience with both GraphQL and REST.
- Ability to evaluate complex systems, define pragmatic architectural direction, and lead cross-team execution.
- Experience establishing reusable patterns and technical standards that improve maintainability.
- Strong technical leadership, mentorship, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
Compensation
- Base salary: $177,185–$364,795 USD.
- Equity eligible.
