Principal Software Engineer
Hands-on principal engineer building and defending scalable Java applications, APIs, and user interfaces while mentoring a Scrum team. The role requires expertise in Spring Boot, React, relational databases, testing, and production monitoring, with cloud and container experience advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks throughout the software development life cycle.
- Work with business stakeholders to iterate on software requirements.
- Develop tools and applications using clean, efficient code.
- Automate tasks with appropriate tools and scripting.
- Analyze and debug systems.
- Perform validation and verification testing using test-driven development.
- Review others’ work and invite peer review of your own work.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to fix and improve products.
- Keep software up to date with current technologies.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor team members, and deliver business and technical objectives amid ambiguity.
Requirements
- Experience writing clean, scalable Java code.
- Experience with UI development and React.
- Experience with Spring Boot.
- In-depth knowledge of relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.
- Experience writing RESTful API endpoints.
- Working knowledge of test-driven development.
- Proficiency with Git.
- Experience with system and performance monitoring tools such as New Relic and Datadog.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, and RestAssured.
- Strong organization, critical-thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and personal leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Team-oriented approach and willingness to learn and share knowledge.
- Proven software engineering experience.
- BSc/BA in Computer Science or a related field.
Nice to Have
- Experience with generative AI code assistants such as GitHub Copilot and knowledge of current generative AI model capabilities.
- Selenium automation and cloud experience.
- Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio.
- Ansible.
- Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
- Linux and IP networking.
- AWS, Azure, or equivalent cloud services.
- SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect.
- SaaS products and service-oriented architecture.
- Python, Bash, or Groovy scripting.
- On-call experience with production-grade systems.
