Staff Software Engineer

Build and evolve Android mobile tooling, build and release infrastructure, and AI-assisted developer workflows used by hundreds of engineers. The role requires extensive software engineering experience, large-scale Android build expertise, Kotlin, command-line tooling, CI, and mobile testing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain mobile build and release infrastructure for Android engineers.
  • Guide projects from planning through delivery, ensuring cross-functional alignment, stakeholder support, prioritization, estimation, and architectural review.
  • Analyze systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Contribute to existing tooling and related open-source technologies.
  • Prototype and implement infrastructure improvements, including Bazel remote execution and new platform capabilities.
  • Build mobile-specific AI agent workflows to improve developer productivity and migration efficiency.
  • Maintain Android Studio, Android versions, and third-party library dependencies.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, readable, and maintainable code.
  • Triage, debug, and resolve issues across applications and tools.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical talks, hiring, onboarding, and engineering-community initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting large Android builds and large-scale Android applications or infrastructure.
  • Experience building command-line tools with Python or Bash.
  • Experience maintaining high-performance CI pipelines.
  • Strong Kotlin knowledge.
  • Deep understanding of native mobile testing, including unit, snapshot, and UI testing.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, product sense, and project leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bazel experience, including remote execution.
  • Jetpack Compose.
  • Side projects or open-source contributions.
  • Experience with AI, agentic programming, or developer-productivity tools such as Cursor.

Compensation

  • Expected base pay: $176,000–$220,000 annually, excluding potential equity, bonus, and benefits.
