Senior Principal, Investments

Leads complex tax equity and preferred equity investments for clean energy and infrastructure projects, from structuring through closing. The role requires 10–12+ years of relevant investing or structured-finance experience, deep partnership-tax expertise, strong modeling and negotiation skills, and the ability to guide teams and Investment Committee decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of tax equity and preferred equity investments, including hybrid transactions, from term sheet through close.
  • Identify, structure, price, document, and manage transaction risk.
  • Serve as the technical authority on partnership structures, tax issues, and capital account basis matters, including DROs, basis, allocations, safe harbor, and recapture.
  • Prepare and present opportunities to the Investment Committee for screening and final investment decisions.
  • Lead negotiations with sponsors and capital partners.
  • Review and pressure-test complex partnership and hybrid models, partnering with Legal, Tax, and Risk on key issues and IRS compliance.
  • Help build institutional infrastructure for capital-partner underwriting of Crux as a GP.
  • Mentor team members and promote AI-enabled workflows across the deal lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Environmental Studies, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10–12+ years of experience in renewable energy, structured finance, or infrastructure investing.
  • Direct experience leading tax equity transactions, including hybrid structures.
  • Expertise in partnership structures and tax and capital account basis issues.
  • Experience across solar, wind, and storage technologies; emerging-category exposure is beneficial.
  • Strong risk judgment, modeling, negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to lead Investment Committee discussions, guide a team, and resolve complex issues independently.
  • Strong technology and AI capabilities, or a demonstrated ability to adopt them quickly.
  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and Series 63 licenses, or willingness to obtain them under broker-dealer sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with partnership flips, T-flips, preferred equity, and sale-leaseback transactions.
  • Prior experience at a bank, particularly in project finance, structured products, or leveraged finance, or at a developer or sponsor.
  • MBA or another advanced degree.

  • Compensation in the $300,000s to $500,000s+ depending on experience and revenue scope, excluding equity value.
