Responsibilities
Build an AI-Native Legal Function
- Design and continuously improve Legal’s operating model.
- Determine which work should be handled by lawyers, automated, or eliminated.
- Build intelligent intake, triage, workflow, and knowledge-management systems.
- Partner with technical teams to apply Devin, AI agents, and automation to legal workflows.
Improve Legal Operations
- Create scalable processes that help employees get legal answers quickly.
- Partner with Sales, Product, Engineering, Security, Finance, People, and Communications to remove operational friction.
- Measure speed, outcomes, recurring friction, outside spend, and team capacity to drive continuous improvement.
Own Legal Technology and Automation
- Set the Legal team’s technology strategy across contracting, knowledge management, matter management, e-billing, entity management, and related systems.
- Evaluate whether software, AI, automation, process changes, or elimination is the best solution to each problem.
- Build and deploy AI-enabled workflows that increase team leverage.
Own the Business of Legal
- Manage the Legal team’s budget, outside counsel relationships, vendors, technology, and operational planning.
- Develop an approach to using outside counsel versus building internal expertise.
- Negotiate fees and alternative arrangements and oversee external legal service delivery.
- Establish operating rhythms and dashboards covering priorities, workload, spending, and performance.
Help Build the Legal Team
- Help shape an ownership-oriented operating culture.
- Apply sound judgment, solve problems beyond narrow job responsibilities, and use technology to improve team effectiveness.
Requirements
- Significant experience in legal operations, business operations, or a comparable role improving complex organizations.
- Experience with legal-function operations, including budgets, outside counsel, legal technology, contracting systems, planning, and metrics.
- Strongly preferred: experience inside a rapidly growing technology company.
- Curiosity about AI and its impact on professional work.
- Excellent judgment, bias toward action, clear communication, low ego, and ability to work with engineers and executives.
- Builder mindset and ability to identify and fix broken processes.
Nice-to-Haves
- JD, MBA, or equivalent experience.
