Android Engineer III - Hunt

Build and scale Android experiences for onX’s Hunt product, collaborating across engineering and product teams on architecture, experimentation, and reliable customer-facing features. The role requires at least four years of professional software development experience, including two years of Android development with Kotlin or Java.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build engaging Android application experiences for the Hunt team.
  • Partner with engineers and product managers across teams to integrate services cleanly.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and write unit, integration, and acceptance tests.
  • Provide code reviews and maintain coverage across the team’s work.
  • Design, build, and analyze A/B experiments.
  • Explore responsible, repeatable uses of AI in daily workflows through experimentation and validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years focused on Android development with Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Ability to evaluate technologies based on merit, stability, performance, and debuggability.
  • Experience writing maintainable, well-tested code.
  • Ownership mindset, willingness to mentor and be mentored, and customer advocacy.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Hypothesis-driven, metrics-oriented approach to experimentation and iteration.
  • Continuous integration experience.
  • Permanent US work authorization.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for multiple days to a corporate office or strategic location.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with experimentation and analytics tooling, such as Split, Eppo, or client event instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming with Kotlin Flows and Coroutines.
  • Knowledge of modern Android libraries such as Jetpack Compose.
  • Ability to balance speed and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively with a distributed team.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range of $130,000–$153,000 upon hire.
  • Full-time employees are eligible for common share options and an annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
