Pricing Actuary

The Pricing Actuary leads client proof-of-concepts, applies P&C ratemaking expertise, and translates insurance requirements into software-driven solutions. The role requires at least five years of pricing experience, strong rate-filing knowledge, and familiarity with predictive modeling and machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead proof-of-concepts with prospective clients and communicate complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Apply creative approaches to traditional actuarial tasks and answer ad hoc actuarial questions using Akur8 features.
  • Diagnose misalignments between clients’ software use and underlying actuarial assumptions.
  • Identify product features and offerings that benefit insurers and support product-roadmap development.
  • Translate insurance business requirements into practical, software-driven solutions.
  • Present ratemaking analyses and recommendations to stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Contribute to white papers and present at conferences and webinars.
  • Travel approximately five working days per month for team trips, client meetings, and industry events.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a P&C/general insurance pricing role, such as Pricing Actuary or Actuarial Consultant.
  • Broad insurance industry knowledge, including ISO products and ISO ERCD.
  • Experience recommending and filing rates, developing rate indications, applying measurement methods and state-specific adjustments, and introducing or updating rating variables and factors.
  • Experience across the rate filing and approval lifecycle, including responding to objections from state Departments of Insurance.
  • Hands-on experience in actuarial ratemaking and rate deployment in a P&C or general insurance pricing environment.
  • Ability to understand insurance business imperatives and translate them into practical software-driven solutions.
  • Ability to quickly understand clients’ ratemaking processes, identify requirements, and map them to Akur8 platform functionality.
  • Basic understanding of data science and machine-learning techniques for predictive modeling.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately one week per month.
  • Native or near-native fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial and specialty lines.
  • Familiarity with Python or R.
  • ACAS or FCAS credentials, or equivalent fellowship in a recognized actuarial body.
