First Controller role responsible for leading month-end close, financial reporting, audits, and migrating from QuickBooks to a modern AI-first ERP while building scalable finance processes. Requires CPA, 8+ years experience, Big 4 audit background, and strong automation skills.

What you’ll do
Modernize the finance stack
- Lead the migration from QuickBooks to a modern AI-first ERP (DualEntry, Rillet, Campfire, or similar) and add an inventory management system when required
- Build automations and AI-native workflows into close, AP, AR, expense, and reporting
- Be opinionated about which workflows belong in finance vs. the broader business
Own the books, close, and controls
- Lead month-end close, financial reporting, audit, tax, and compliance
- Own AP, AR, payroll, GL, T&E with one direct report
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and audit-readiness across all accounting functions
Partner on the decisions, not just the reports
- Partner with the Head of Finance on product- and customer-level cost accounting
- Bring creative thinking to accurate product / customer economics
- Assist with investor communications and translating finance for non-finance leaders
What we’re looking for
- CPA + bachelor's or higher in Accounting or Finance
- 8+ years of accounting experience, with some as a Controller
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting; Big 4 company audit experience
- Unwavering detail orientation and accuracy
- Comfort building automations, ideally that incorporate AI
- Demonstrated ability to master new business-critical domains quickly
- Startup pragmatism: gets the details right without imposing process on the rest of the business
- US Person; clearance eligible
Big plus
- Led migration of a foundational system (ERP, inventory management, billing) in a startup
- Hands-on operator in a modern ERP (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, DualEntry, Rillet, Campfire)
- Manufacturing / inventory accounting
- Cost accounting depth for novel allocation questions
- Government cost accounting familiarity (CAS / DCAA)
- Institutional investor relations / due diligence support
- Strong communication with non-finance partners
