Controller
Own core accounting, audit, tax, payments, and expense management for a startup. Manage external partners today with scope to bring functions in-house over time. Requires active CPA, US GAAP and SaaS accounting expertise, and full-cycle close/audit experience.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Manage and review the month-end close (currently run through external accountants); investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Own the external auditor relationship; coordinate information requests internally; investigate and resolve issues
- Manage external tax accountants; handle direct execution like new-state registrations and payments
- Run the payment cycle; own and troubleshoot the corporate card / expense system
- Over time, lead implementation of new systems (ERP, rev rec, payments); potentially build an in-house close process
Requirements
- Active CPA
- Expertise with US GAAP, SaaS revenue recognition, stock based compensation, multi-entity / international accounting
- Owned full-cycle month end close / quarter end close processes and managed audits end-to-end
- Undergraduate qualification in accounting, finance, or a rigorous quantitative field
- Strong investigative skills - you spot when something is off and can reconstruct what happened
- High bar for accuracy, with exacting attention to detail and little tolerance for errors
- Strong organizational skills - you can keep multiple streams of work running in parallel
- Low ego attitude - you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in
- Based in the US
