Controls Engineer

Designs, commissions, and maintains automated control systems for AI supercomputer campuses, including cooling plants, electrical distribution, liquid-cooling loops, and data halls. Requires an engineering bachelor’s degree and at least one year of industrial automation and controls experience.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development while balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time constraints.
  • Design NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A-compliant industrial electrical control panels and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics.
  • Simulate processes to assess automation proposals for cooling plants, electrical distribution, and liquid-cooling loops.
  • Architect, write, and debug organized, documented, maintainable, and reusable PLC code for critical infrastructure.
  • Create simple HMI screens for complex plant and facility systems with sufficient troubleshooting feedback.
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic systems, and fluid plumbing.
  • Select and size electrical and electromechanical components, including VFDs, servo motors, and controllers.
  • Deploy automated processes and equipment into live campus operations, including BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and PLC systems serving chillers, CDUs, pumps, and power distribution.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience designing and commissioning industrial automation and controls systems.
  • Ability to work onsite in the Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS area.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to other locations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Building automation systems for critical infrastructure.
  • Mechanical/HVAC controls and wiring, including Delta Controls.
  • Process integration and electromechanical or mechatronic systems.
  • Electrical schematic CAD using EPLAN.
  • C#, .NET, Python, and/or SQL.
  • PLC programming, preferably Siemens TIA Portal and Beckhoff TwinCAT 3.
  • HMI and SCADA programming, preferably Ignition.
  • Fieldbus networks, serial communication, and Ethernet communication.
  • Building and commissioning electrical control panels and electromechanical systems.
  • NEC, NFPA 79, and UL 508A codes.
  • Industrial sensors and equipment used in cooling plants and electrical distribution, including temperature, flow, pressure, leak detection, VFDs, chillers, CDUs, and switchgear.
  • Experience in data centers, power generation, semiconductor, or other high-reliability industrial environments.
  • Fast-paced iterative design and commissioning environments.
  • Independent problem-solving with minimal supervision, individually or as part of an integrated team.
