Software Engineer, AI Product + Agents

Responsibilities

• Develop Shepherd's AI product strategy with other engineers.
• Iterate and experiment on AI implementation across the platform.
• Work across the full stack and different disciplines (e.g., underwriting, design, product management).
• Play an integral role in building company culture and mentor other engineers.
• Balance innovation with pragmatic delivery, staying current with emerging tech.
• Contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions.
• Collaborate closely with PM, CTO, underwriters, and actuaries.

Requirements

• Thrive in ambiguity and ship product daily with high quality.
• Wear multiple hats (engineer, product manager, designer).
• Take end-to-end ownership of features and systems.
• Care about built-world, construction safety, and productivity.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading significant projects.
• Strong opinions, weakly held; clear communication to all stakeholders.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (backend and/or frontend).
• 5+ years working experience, preferably full-stack, delivering high-impact products.

Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL w/ Apollo
Backend: Node.js, Postgres, Redis, TypeScript, GraphQL APIs
