Engineering Manager, Banking
Leads and grows the team responsible for Nova’s core money-movement, ledger, banking integration, identity, and compliance infrastructure. The player-coach role requires engineering management or strong technical leadership experience, backend platform expertise, and familiarity with high-stakes fintech systems.

Responsibilities
- Own Nova Foundations, including the ledger, bank and payment integrations, KYC, and PII systems.
- Grow the engineering team from approximately 4 engineers to 5–7 engineers.
- Help establish separate money movement and risk and compliance teams.
- Partner with product managers, stakeholders, and product engineering teams to deliver the roadmap.
- Set technical direction with senior and staff engineers.
- Maintain high standards for correctness, auditability, security, and reliability.
- Stay hands-on enough to unblock the team, maintain technical context, and make sound tradeoffs.
- Learn and guide tradeoffs involving money movement, bank integrations, identity, and KYC.
- Ensure reliable delivery of future products, including distributions, LP wallets and identity, and capital calls.
Requirements
- 2+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, developing, and supporting engineers.
- Strong senior or lead engineers transitioning into management may be considered with a record of technical leadership.
- Experience with fintech, payments, banking, ledgers, KYC, compliance systems, or another high-stakes domain.
- Experience shipping and operating backend or platform systems where correctness and reliability are critical.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails and service-oriented systems, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Strong startup judgment and comfort with ambiguity.
Success Measures
- Money movement operates with a 0% transfer error rate as volume grows.
- Foundations reliably supports upcoming launches without becoming a bottleneck.
- The team is healthy, growing, and organized into clear money movement and risk and compliance roadmaps.
