Principal Software Engineer, Capital Marketplace

Role Summary\nPrincipal Engineer on the Capital Supply team, collaborating across Upstart's business and engineering to drive technical roadmap, architecture, and innovation for Capital Marketplace systems.\n\n## How you’ll make an impact:\n- Help define the Capital Supply engineering’s longer term technical roadmap ensuring alignment with business objectives\n- Guide the architectural evolution of Capital Supply systems with an emphasis on systems shared across the Capital Market engineering teams\n- Uncover and drive alignment across complex technical requirements, designs, trade-offs, influencing product direction\n- Proactively evaluate, prototype, and roll out new technologies/frameworks to help cultivate a culture of innovation\n- Partner with product leaders to shape product direction and drive business impact across all Capital Supply products\n- Lead from the front, while mentoring and developing technical leaders\n- Identify and prioritize high leverage and impactful opportunities\n\n## What we’re looking for:\n### Minimum requirements:\n- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 8 years of experience\n- Strong technical and software engineering fundamentals including a demonstrated ability to build and own large-scale, highly available consumer products\n- Ability to explain complex business and technical concepts to all audiences\n- Experience leading large cross-team initiatives at companies that have gone through periods of rapid business or organizational growth\n- Track record of successfully mentoring and developing technical leaders\n\n### Preferred qualifications:\n- Has defined and executed on longer term (multi-quarter +) technological visions or strategies for multi-team organizations\n- Has driven initiatives of significant depth or breadth with demonstrated results in engineering process, technology platforms, or overall productivity of others\n- Ability to identify gaps in organizational knowledge, tools, and practices and produce and execute on plans to address those gaps\n- Ability to influence and lead without direct authority\n- Strong product and analytical mindset that allows you to think in terms of ROI, risk, and trade offs
