Principal Engineer, Ads Platform

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of high-throughput, low-latency systems supporting ad selection, targeting, pacing, delivery, attribution, and measurement.
• Design for reliability, resilience, graceful degradation, observability, SLOs, alerting, and operational excellence.
• Evolve event-driven and data-intensive architectures across transactional and non-transactional stores, streaming, messaging, caching, and real-time processing.
• Establish organization-wide standards for service design, APIs, testing, observability, reliability, and operational readiness.
• Lead major migrations, architectural redesigns, and platform re-foundations.
• Define long-term Ads platform strategy and influence architecture across engineering organizations.
• Solve complex cross-organizational technical problems and align Ads, Platform, Product, Data, and ML teams.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, engineering managers, and technical leaders.

Requirements

• Significant experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed backend systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of partitioning, replication, consistency models, caching, concurrency, asynchronous processing, failure modes, and coordination.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving performance and scaling problems across applications, databases, caches, queues, networks, and infrastructure.
• Strong expertise in service-oriented or microservice architectures, APIs, event-driven systems, and high-volume data processing.
• Experience making architectural tradeoffs across relational and non-relational databases, streaming platforms, caching technologies, and distributed storage.
• Strong production operations experience, including observability, SLOs, incident response, capacity planning, and load testing.
• Hands-on technical leadership experience at organizational scale.
