Staff Software Engineer - Backend
Build and operate scalable backend services and resilient distributed systems while owning complex architecture and production problems. The role requires deep backend expertise, strong communication, cross-team technical influence, and experience mentoring engineers at Staff level.

Responsibilities
- Design and build highly scalable, reliable backend services and APIs.
- Own complex technical problems from architecture through production.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and Data Science to deliver impactful solutions.
- Drive architectural decisions and improve engineering standards and practices.
- Build secure, observable, and resilient distributed systems.
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team.
- Solve challenging production and performance problems at scale.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and operating large-scale backend systems.
- Hands-on experience with Golang preferred; Java or Scala also relevant.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and AWS.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Exposure to high-volume data, streaming, or event-driven systems.
- Strong understanding of security, privacy, and data protection.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort working through ambiguity.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and driving impact across teams.
- Permanent right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not provided.
- Based in London or within a commutable distance, with the ability to attend the office as needed.
