Senior Engineering Manager - Payments Experience
Leads the engineering organization responsible for Rippling’s payments experience and shared payments platform. The role combines people leadership, platform architecture, AI-first product development, and operational ownership of high-scale financial systems.

Responsibilities
- Own the Payments Experience systems and product layer, including execution readiness, status, recovery, and user-facing resolution.
- Lead AI-first experiences that surface anomalies, explain payment outcomes, anticipate issues, answer questions, and help users resolve problems.
- Platformize and unify payments experiences across fintech products through reusable capabilities, APIs, workflows, and abstractions.
- Define the roadmap, architecture, operating model, and boundary between shared payment capabilities and product-specific logic.
- Build performant, intuitive payment experiences with strong latency, reliability, resilience, observability, fault tolerance, and recovery.
- Own the Balance wallet product for contractor earnings and modern withdrawal methods.
- Operate high-volume payment systems at global scale with distributed engineering and non-engineering teams.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Money Movement, Tax, Contractor, and Global Payroll teams.
Requirements
- Experience applying AI to improve product experiences, automate workflows, surface insights, or simplify complex systems.
- Experience leading organizations of 10 or more engineers, including senior and staff-level engineers.
- Experience with high-scale distributed systems.
- Experience building shared platforms, APIs, or foundational capabilities for multiple product teams.
- Strong product judgment and ability to balance technical excellence, user experience, and business outcomes.
- Experience defining architecture for complex, highly available systems and making pragmatic platform-versus-velocity tradeoffs.
- Track record of creating simple, intuitive, and performant experiences from complex workflows.
- Strong operational rigor around reliability, correctness, observability, and resilience.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, autonomy, ownership, and ability to set direction in ambiguous environments.
- Comfortable leading distributed teams across time zones and geographies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in payments, fintech, payroll, banking, or similarly complex domains.
