Engineering Manager, Web Infrastructure

Leads the Web Infrastructure team responsible for Notion’s web client architecture, performance, reliability, and shared design systems. The role manages senior engineers and managers, drives execution and planning, and partners across the organization on technical and organizational practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a diverse, inclusive team of engineers and engineering managers working on web infrastructure and core architecture.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop engineers; provide regular feedback and support career growth.
  • Facilitate planning, including prioritization, sequencing, and staffing.
  • Maintain a high quality bar for shipped work and own execution cadence.
  • Partner across the organization to improve product speed, reliability, and ease of development.
  • Help shape engineering practices, recruiting and onboarding strategy, planning, and prioritization processes.

Requirements

  • Experience managing senior engineering teams and managers, including scaling teams.
  • Experience building or committing to diverse and inclusive teams.
  • Ability to create collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging team environments.
  • Deep product and technology background sufficient to balance product, technology, and people considerations and make tradeoffs.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and organizational change.
  • Empathetic, direct communication skills, especially for giving and receiving feedback.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience managing engineering teams at startups during rapid growth and organizational change.
  • Experience introducing engineering and management practices such as code review, performance reviews, and levels and ladders.
  • Experience managing teams across multiple offices.

Compensation

  • Estimated base salary: $255,000–$300,000 per year for roles based in San Francisco.
