Data Science Manager, Risk

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a high-performing, geographically distributed team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts across India and Singapore.
• Own roadmap prioritization, execution quality, and stakeholder alignment for the Verifications and Greater China workstreams.
• Drive hiring for current and future data roles in India.
• Coach, mentor, and support career development and performance management for individual contributors.
• Serve as the founding data craft leader for Stripe's India office.
• Establish quality standards, knowledge-sharing rituals, peer reviews, office hours, tooling practices, and data craft standards.
• Partner with managers and leads across the broader Data organization to align methodology, tooling, and quality expectations.
• Support onboarding and integration of new data hires in the Bengaluru office.
• Define and drive the data roadmap with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Establish and raise standards for analytical rigor, experimentation frameworks, and data science practices.
• Recruit and retain data talent and build a strong local data culture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners and global data leaders to align priorities and share learnings.
• Communicate insights, recommendations, and team progress to senior leadership.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related quantitative field.
• 3+ years of people management experience leading data scientists or analysts.
• Strong technical foundation in SQL, Python or R, statistical modeling, and experimentation design.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical frameworks and actionable insights.
• Experience managing and developing individual contributors across multiple levels, including coaching, career pathing, and performance management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence across functions and time zones.
• Proven ability to drive alignment and execution across distributed, cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree such as an M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or financial services.
• Experience building and scaling data teams in a high-growth environment, especially establishing 0-to-1 functions or teams.
• Experience architecting team rituals, standards, hiring practices, and data craft culture from the ground up.
• Familiarity with risk, verifications, or compliance-related data domains.
• Experience operating across Asia-Pacific markets and managing multi-region teams.
• Passion for developing others and creating environments where individual contributors can do their best work.
