Fire Protection Technician

Provides design support, inspections, commissioning, and compliance expertise for facility fire and life safety systems. Requires a high school diploma and at least two years of fire protection systems or consulting experience; fire protection engineering education and relevant certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering design, analysis, calculations, and specifications for facility fire and life safety systems.
  • Verify and sustain building adherence to current fire codes and the operational integrity of fire life safety systems.
  • Develop Alternate Means & Methods (AM&M) for local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to support performance-based design criteria and meet code intent.
  • Manage commissioning of fire life safety projects, from initial planning and risk assessments through post-commissioning monitoring and adjustments.
  • Conduct routine inspections, audits, and testing of alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and other fire life safety systems; identify and resolve deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with facilities teams, contractors, fire marshals, and other external authorities to coordinate installations, upgrades, and certifications.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, reports, and records of inspections, compliance activities, and corrective actions for regulatory audits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and constructing fire protection systems and/or in fire protection consulting.
  • Working knowledge of building and fire codes and NFPA Codes & Standards.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
  • Willingness to travel for specific project needs.

Nice to Have

  • Degree in fire protection engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or successful completion of the Principles of Engineering exam.
  • NICET certification in relevant fire protection programs.
  • Ability to lead project design teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance.
  • Fire and smoke software modeling capabilities.
  • Construction administration experience.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
