Payroll Manager
Own end-to-end multi-state U.S. payroll operations for a growing workforce, ensuring accurate processing, tax compliance, reconciliations, benefits deductions, and payroll controls. Requires 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including management or lead experience and expertise with equity compensation.

Responsibilities
- Own and manage end-to-end payroll for all U.S. employees across multiple states.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll taxes, FLSA wage and hour laws, and multi-state employment requirements.
- Process garnishments, bonuses, commissions, and equity-related payroll events.
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and partner with Accounting on month-end close, accruals, and payroll journal entries.
- Manage payroll providers, tax agencies, benefits vendors, and payroll system administration.
- Administer and audit benefits deductions, 401(k) contributions, and other pre- and post-tax deductions.
- Manage quarterly and annual payroll tax filings and support year-end processes.
- Maintain internal controls and support payroll audits.
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements and automation.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries confidentially and professionally.
- Monitor multi-state nexus and remote-work tax requirements.
- Provide reporting and analysis for Finance, HR, and executive leadership.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a payroll management or lead role.
- Hands-on experience processing multi-state U.S. payroll for a company with 300+ employees.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll accounting.
- Experience with a major payroll or HRIS platform.
- Experience processing RSUs and stock options through payroll.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership of accuracy and deadlines, communication skills, and discretion with sensitive employee data.
Nice-to-Haves
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Experience in a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
- Experience with SOX compliance and payroll internal controls.
- Familiarity with international and contractor payroll.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary: $136,000–$160,224 USD.
