Staff Engineer responsible for architecting and operating MongoDB’s large-scale observability collection and ingestion infrastructure. The role requires 10+ years of experience with distributed or highly concurrent systems, expert programming skills, and strong database, performance, and systems fundamentals.

Responsibilities
- Build and architect systems for the mission-critical observability platform, leading components that improve performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and resiliency.
- Design and implement observability improvements that help engineers and customers diagnose production issues.
- Handle production customer escalations and coach teammates.
- Write production-ready database code, improve existing code, and mentor engineers on code quality.
- Own Observability Team code areas, maintaining high standards for security, durability, availability, performance, and maintainability.
- Diagnose test failures, identify and fix bugs, and prevent regressions.
- Investigate performance impacts of code changes.
- Interview candidates for advanced software engineering positions.
- Maintain expertise in database and observability developments.
- Lead development and project management for large company-wide projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, engineering teams, Product Management, and Engineering leadership on initiatives, technical direction, and roadmaps.
- Improve unit and integration tests.
- Work with customers and support engineers and participate in the on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience designing, programming, debugging, and tuning distributed or highly concurrent mission-critical software systems.
- Expert-level programming experience with Go, Java, C, or C++.
- Experience running latency-sensitive, high-throughput systems.
- Strong systems fundamentals, including multithreaded programming and performance profiling.
- Familiarity with database internals or core components for data-processing systems.
- Familiarity with observability ecosystems and best practices.
- Excellent technical communication and collaboration skills, including mentoring engineers.
- Strong time and project management skills.
- Understanding of information security management.

- Indexing or database performance-tuning experience.
