Staff Software Engineer - CI Services

Responsibilities

• Build and manage systems for continuous integration at massive scale, including batching, speculative stacking, and merge-race inhibition.
• Build and manage systems for large CI test suites, including identifying and managing flaky tests, assessing and reproducing flakiness, and optimizing test effectiveness.
• Enhance CI system reliability through adaptive response to available capacity, resilience and self-recovery from outages, and highly leveraged observability.
• Detect and isolate code breakages to minimize their blast radius.
• Work directly with product engineers to understand and deliver their productivity needs.
• Scope and lead large technical projects with significant impact for engineers across Stripe.
• Design, build, and maintain core CI systems used by Stripe engineering teams.
• Evaluate technology and architecture choices and own many of these decisions.
• Contribute directly to core interface design and write code.
• Make critical decisions that consider software best practices, system realities, and stakeholder concerns.
• Teach and mentor technical leaders.
• Drive effective, highly leveraged use of AI-assisted implementation, operations, and delivery within the team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional hands-on software development experience.
• Hands-on experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Track record of technically mentoring junior and senior engineers.
